Program Profile

The International Master's degree program has a focus on Cancer research and Immunology research. The students will get profound knowledge about current research in the field of cancer research as well as of immunology and will have the opportunity to perform two internships with each 6 months in two different research laboratories.

You are interested in life sciences and research? You already finished a bachelor´s degree in biology, biomedicine, molecular medicine or other life sciences? Then you can apply and deepen your knowledge and extend your skills about cancer research and immunity.

What makes this program special?

The program is focussed on research. You can take part in individual internships in reseach groups - for example at the Leibniz Institute for Immunotherapy (LIT).

What can I do with this degree?

You can start your own PhD project and stay in academic research. You can also join a research company in the biomedical field.

Structure of the Program

Structure

The Master's program is spread over four semesters.

Lectures and method courses are offered in the first semester. These courses will equip the student with a thorough understanding of Immunology as well as of Cancer Research. Furthermore, the students will learn the basics of Bioinformatic as it is currently used in research labs.

From the second semester onwards, students can take part in individual internships in reseach groups focused on immunological or cancer-related research. Prior to their first internship, the students will perform thorough literature research to their upcoming project and formulate a hypothesis for their research question which they can test in the following internship.

Eligibility Test / Aptitude Test

The application has two steps. 

Step 1: Please sent the following documents. Diploma with final grade between 1.0 and 2.0, Transcript of records, curriculum vitae, English language certificate, and an essay.

Step 2: Interview about methodological knowledge, specialist knowledge and interdisciplinary thinking.

After the interview, the committee decides on the suitability of the candidate for the Master´s programme.

Subject-Specific Language Requirements

You need proof of sufficient knowledge of the English language at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR); this level can alternatively be proven by an equivalent TOEFL test (with 80 points) or other equivalent proof (e.g. first degree in an English-language degree program). Proof of knowledge of the German language is not neccessary. There will be a course in the first semester to learn German at level A1.
