Course: English - Teaching degree primary school

The Bavarian teacher training programme is divided into an academic course of study at the university, which ends with the first state examination, and a two-year preparatory service, which concludes with the second state examination. The university degree programme for a teaching degree at primary schools consists of
- a teaching subject,
- the didactics of primary school teaching,
- the education programme and
- internships.
The degree programme for English as a teaching subject covers the following areas
- Language practice,
- Linguistics,
- Literature and cultural studies (both british and american studies),
- Didactics.
Linguistics is concerned with understanding the structures and developments of the English language, while literary and cultural studies focuses on a critical examination of the literatures and cultures of the United Kingdom, Ireland, North America and other English-speaking countries.

Enthusiasm for your subjects, strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex content in an understandable way are particularly important. You also need enthusiasm for:
- Communicative and expressive skills
- Interest in other cultures
- Interest in academic content
- Willingness to read and write a lot
- Willingness to deal with abstract problems and ability to work independently
- at least a good knowledge of English
- Knowledge of Latin or a foreign romance language at level A2 of the common european framework of reference for languages (CEFR) or willingness to acquire this knowledge (see below)

Partial compatibility with the B.A. degree programs in english linguistics, british studies and american studies enables a dual enrolment teaching degree/B.A. in many subject combinations.

Structure of the Program
Program Structure
In the didactics of primary school teaching degree programme, you will study a teaching subject, primary school education and didactics, three didactics subjects and education (school education, general educational psychology and psychology). You will learn how to apply your theoretical knowledge in everyday school life through various internships during your studies.

In the subject English..
- ... the basic qualifications acquired in the core modules are expanded and consolidated in the specialisation modules.
- The foreign language didactics module focuses specifically on the skills and knowledge of lesson design and aspects of teaching and learning the English language and English-language cultures and literatures.
All teacher training programs include an education module.

Subject-Specific Language Requirements
The following language skills must be demonstrated at the latest when registering for the State Examination:
Knowledge of Latin or knowledge at level A2 of the common european framework of reference for languages (CEFR) in a foreign romance language.
This knowledge can also be acquired during the degree programme. Corresponding courses are offered via the foreign language training programme (SFA).
