Childcare during the school holidays

UR childcare during the school holidays, general information

Childcare at UR during the school holidays, general information

As the school holidays in Bavaria often coincide with lecture periods and it is not always possible to take leave during the school holidays, we organise childcare during the school holidays for the children of UR students and employees.

Target group: Children of UR students and employees aged 6 to 12 years

Childcare team: The children are looked after by a pedagogy specialist and experienced student employees. You can find our current holiday care team here.

Times: Participation in the holiday programmes is usually possible all day from 8.00 to 16.00, Friday until 13.30, half-day until 12.30 or with lunch in the canteen until 13.30. Some excursions take place all day.

Registration: Parents can register their children with the Family Service at any time. The programme for each holiday week is determined approximately three months in advance. We will then inform parents about the planned programme via our e-mail distribution list. If you would also like to receive this information, please contact us at familienservice(at)ur.de (opens your email program) or via the contact form.

You can send us the respective registration form by e-mail (UR account).

You can find all further information in the registration and participation conditions (opens in a new window). (This PDF is not accessible).

Babysitter placement

Search babysitter

Are you looking for a qualified babysitter or childminder?

Staff and students at the University of Regensburg are welcome to contact the Family Service (opens your email program) if they are looking for a private babysitter.

We will put you in touch with qualified babysitters or childminders who have undergone training and have received nothing but positive reviews. Our database includes young people, but also experienced family women or older people who have all completed the two-day qualification course. In addition, they all have to present an extended certificate of good conduct.

We only make the contact for you, you make the concrete arrangements between yourselves.

The procedure is as follows:

1. The best thing to do is to send us an e-mail outlining what you need, stating where you live and how much time you have available. We will then call you back and discuss the details of the planned assignment.

2. We will then forward your enquiry to our babysitting list in consultation with you.

3. Those of the trained babysitters who have time and are interested will contact us (often with a brief introduction for you) - or you directly.

4. You contact the babysitters yourself and arrange the rest with them. To help you with this, we have compiled general information on babysitting and a checklist for parents.

Contact: familienservice(at)ur.de (opens your email program) or via the contact form.

Would you like to volunteer as a babysitter or childminder?

We will be happy to put you in contact with employees or students of the University of Regensburg as a babysitter or childminder.

As we only recommend trained or qualified babysitters, you must first complete a two-day training course. These training courses take place about three to four times a year. You can also attend the two training days on different training dates.

Target group: People aged 16 and over who would like to work with children and earn a little money at the same time. Experienced family women or older people are also welcome to register.

Courses and registration: The babysitting service is a cooperation project between the district of Regensburg, the city of Regensburg, medbo, the University of Regensburg and the University Hospital Regensburg. Here you will find information on courses/registration (external link, opens in a new window).

Supervision during courses

Flexible childcare during courses

The Family Service organises and finances individual childcare on campus on an hourly basis. Students with small children for whom no regular childcare is available can thus maintain contact with the university and also attend individual lectures and seminars during their leave of absence. Childcare is available for a maximum of four hours per week after making personal contact.

This flexible childcare is also available to student parents with older children so that they can attend lectures and seminars that take place outside the regular childcare hours.

Please note that there are registration deadlines for this offer.

You can obtainmore information in a personal meeting with the Family Service to clarify your individual situation. Please make an appointment using the contact form.

This service is an additional, voluntary offer from the UR and is funded by the UR to improve study conditions. Students who were able to take advantage of this offer must submit proof of (successful) attendance of the course at the end of the semester.

Sponsor-grandparent project

Sponsor-grandparent project

The sponsored grandparent project for students' children has been a project of the Family Service of the University of Regensburg and the Catholic German Women's Association (KDFB), Regensburg Diocesan Association, (external link, opens in a new window) since 2008.

The volunteer grandparents do everything that 'normal' grandparents do: they sing, read to the children, take them to the playground, bake biscuits or push the pram. In return, the students return the favour by helping the sponsored grandparents in the garden or doing other small jobs for them.

People who have no biological grandchildren or whose grandchildren live far away are particularly happy to have contact with children. And students with children, whose own families often do not live in Regensburg and the surrounding area, can build up an intergenerational network.

It's not about traditional childcare, but about bringing generations together again.

The Patenomas and Patenopas are not to be used as permanent daycare. They are a supplement to childminders, crèches or kindergartens.

The sponsored grandparents are covered by the KDFB's accident insurance. The sponsoring grandparents and students only need private liability insurance.

The Family Service is on hand to advise the sponsoring grandparents and student parents. Regular meetings of the sponsored grandparents create space for a personal exchange of experiences.

The placement is free of charge.

If you are a student mother or father and are interested in sponsoring grandparents for your child, please contact the Family Service.

Interested sponsor grandparents are always welcome, so please get in touch if you are considering joining the voluntary project.

You can find more information on the project in the flyer on the sponsor grandparent project (opens in a new window). (This PDF is not accessible).

Especially for employees

Support for conferences or events

Childcare at conferences or other events

We are happy to support you in organising childcare for conferences, congresses or other university events on the campus of the University of Regensburg.

The amount of time, the childcare programme, the location and the required personnel deployment and thus the costs incurred are discussed individually and adapted to the number and age of the children to be cared for.

If you would like to offer childcare for your participants or guests at an event, please contact (opens your email program)us in good time .

We will organise trained and experienced childcare staff for you and provide age-appropriate play and activity materials.

Childcare is possible for large events such as conferences or congresses where guests are visiting the UR. Other examples are events that take place outside the usual childcare hours, for example events that last into the afternoon and evening hours, or an all-day workshop or weekend seminar. And don't forget that offering childcare to parents who are returning to work or working part-time makes it easier for them to attend work-related events.

The conference organiser bears the costs of childcare or passes them on (in part) to the parents who need childcare.

If the event is part of a coordinated DFG programme (e.g. Collaborative Research Centre, Research Training Group), the childcare costs can usually be covered by the DFG's equal opportunities funds.

Flexible childcare for children of UR employees and guests

Some important meetings, official appointments or other events take place at times or on days when the usual childcare cannot be organised. In these cases, the Family Service offers support and can organise childcare on campus for a fee. It is helpful to register five working days in advance. The child/children will be looked after on the UR campus in a parent-child room or at the playground. Supervision and care will be provided by an experienced pedagogy assistant. If required, please contact us by e-mail at familienservice(at)ur.de (opens your email program)
