International Students

At the Faculty of Biology international exchange students can attend lectures, seminars and practical laboratory courses.

Please note! The level of courses that are taught in English are for Bachelor students in their 3rd year and for Master students. Courses that are suitable for Bachelor students in their 1st or 2nd year are taught in German and you need German language skills at least at the level B2.

Lectures (2 SWS* = 3 CP) run for a full semester. At the end of the course, you must pass a written or oral examination. If you wish to sit the examination, please inform the lecturer before the examination that you are an exchange student, as special arrangements may apply to visiting students.

Seminars (2 CP) As part of the seminars (2 CP), students prepare and deliver a presentation on a specific topic. You must agree on the topic of your presentation with the seminar tutor. You will receive 2 CP for the presentation.

Practical lab courses can be attended throughout the year and are usually offered over a period of three weeks or longer.

Simply contact the person in charge of the laboratory course, enquire about the possibility of taking part, and agree on the dates and the number of weeks.

For a one-week practical course, you will receive 2 CP; for two weeks, 4 CP, and so on. To receive the CP, you must write a report.

If you take part in an accompanying seminar in which you prepare and deliver an oral presentation, you will receive 2 CP for the presentation.

*Semesterwochenstunden (SWS) = contact hours in class per week in a semester.

Leistungspunkte (LP) = Credit points (CP); one credit point is equivalent to 30 working hours of the student which includes contact hours in class plus hours spent on homework.
