The bachelor's thesis should generally be completed in the sixth semester following the major laboratory course II. The thesis should show that the student is able to work on a limited problem from a field of biochemistry using scientific methods and to present their results in an appropriate, factually correct and comprehensible manner (§ 21 PO)

  • Students have a total of 9 weeks to complete their bachelor's thesis.
  • The bachelor's thesis is usually assessed by a reviewer.
  • The bachelor's thesis is awarded 11 CP.
  • Further details can be found in the examination regulations (§§ 19-21).

Registration

Please complete the "Application for admission to the bachelor's thesis" and send it to the Examinations Office for Biology/Biochemistry. The prerequisite for registering for the bachelor's thesis is the successful completion of the modules BCHE-BSc-M 01 to BCHE-BSc-M 17.

Choice of topic and supervision

If you are interested in a particular subject area or topic, please contact the respective working group leader directly - in person or by e-mail. Formal procedures and possible time slots for completing the bachelor's thesis will be communicated to you by the respective working group. In most working groups, bachelor's theses are assigned throughout the year and subject to availability.

Please note: External bachelor's theses - i.e. outside the Faculties of Biology and Preclinical Medicine as well as Chemistry and Pharmacy - are not possible

Bachelor's theses can be written in the research groups of the following chairs:

Delivery

  • The original (two bound printed copies and one electronic version) of the thesis must be submitted to the Examinations Office no later than the submission date specified in the letter of admission in order to ensure that it is submitted on time. Only an e-mail with the thesis as a PDF file is not sufficient and is not considered a timely submission.
  • You must be enrolled at the time of submission.
  • Extension of the submission deadline: If the candidate can prove that he/she is unable to complete the thesis for reasons beyond his/her control, he/she will be granted an extension upon request. The informal application must be submitted by the candidate to the chair of the biochemistry examination board immediately after the reason arises.
