Course: German-Italian studies / Studi Italo-Tedeschi B.A.
- Languages, Literatures, and Cultures
German-Italian studies / Studi Italo-Tedeschi (DIS / SIT) is an undergraduate degree program with an integrated year abroad and internship abroad. They have been offered jointly by the Universities of Regensburg and Trieste since the 2005/06 winter semester.
The German-italian studies are part of the international study programme "Intercultural european studies" of the Institute of Romance Languages and Literature at the University of Regensburg. They differ significantly in their conception from traditional Bachelor's and teacher training programmes and combine foreign language training with cultural studies theory and methodology, knowledge of cultural regions, experience abroad and professional practice.
Thanks to their interdisciplinary approach, German-italian studies offer a broad insight into the Italian language, literature and culture as well as intercultural communication. The option to specialise in a particular field improves the ability to connect to a specialised Master's degree programme.

Details Requirements
Subject-Specific Language Requirements
It is not advisable to start the German-spanish studies programme without sufficient language skills in Italian (CEFR B1.2) and French or Spanish (CEFR B1.2)! Prospective students are recommended to make up for any lack of knowledge before the start of studies by taking language courses during the summer holidays or by spending time abroad in Italy and/or France, or by taking foreign language courses at the Center for Language and Communication(ZSK (external link, opens in a new window)) before the start of studies.
In order to ensure that prospective students have a sufficient level of Italian, French or Spanish, we strongly recommend that they take part in the language placement tests.
If the level in both languages deviates significantly from the CEFR B1.1 standard, we advise against studying German-italian studies.
Further information can be found on the degree program's homepage:
Other Requirements
Admission to the German-italian studies degree program is not restricted. The degree program is No Admission Restrictions, i.e. there is no predetermined number of study places that are allocated solely on the basis of A-level grades. However, our Italian partner university only offers 8 study places, which is why a selection of applicants for the year abroad must be made after the first year of study. Further information can be found in the Examination Regulations.
