General information about your studies

• As a compulsory component in liturgical studies, the lecture “Sacramental Celebrations I: The Eucharist” serves as part of the Basic Module “Practical Theology” and will continue to be offered every winter semester for the foreseeable future.
• As a compulsory component in liturgical studies, the lecture “Celebrating in the Rhythm of Time I: Celebrations in the Rhythm of the Day, the Week, and the Year – Introduction to the Liturgy of Feasts and the Liturgy of the Hours” serves as part of Thematic Module 2 and will continue to be offered every winter semester for the foreseeable future.
• As a compulsory component in liturgical studies, the lecture “Sacramental Celebrations II: Initiation and Other Sacramental Celebrations” serves as part of Thematic Module 8 and will continue to be offered every summer semester for the foreseeable future.
• As a compulsory component in liturgical studies, the lecture “Celebrating in the Rhythm of Time II: The Church’s Easter Celebration” serves as part of the Advanced Module “Canon Law and Liturgical Studies” and will continue to be offered every second winter semester (e.g., WS 2021/22, 2023/24, etc.).

• According to the requirements of the study regulations, the subject of Liturgical Studies must be chosen in strict alternation either in the Basic Module or in the Advanced Module “Religious Education and Practical Theology”; whether it is reasonable to enrol in a consecutive advanced module without prior basic knowledge of the subject is a decision each student must make for themselves.
• In addition, one lecture in Liturgical Studies is a compulsory elective component of Thematic Module 2.
• As a compulsory elective component in Liturgical Studies within the Basic Module “Religious Education and Practical Theology,” the lecture “Sacramental Celebrations I: The Eucharist” is offered, which will continue to be held every winter semester for the foreseeable future. As a compulsory elective component in Liturgical Studies within the Advanced Module “Religious Education and Practical Theology,” the lecture “Sacramental Celebrations II (excluding the Eucharist)” is offered, which will continue to be held every summer semester for the foreseeable future. As a compulsory elective component in Liturgical Studies within Thematic Module 2, the lecture “Celebrating in the Rhythm of Time I: Celebrations in the Rhythm of the Day, the Week, and the Year: Introduction to the Liturgy of Feasts and the Liturgy of the Hours” is offered, which will continue to be held every winter semester for the foreseeable future.
• In addition, seminars in Liturgical Studies are compulsory elective components of various modules.

Doctoral candidates with a First State Examination for teaching at grammar schools are, in accordance with § 11 of the doctoral regulations, generally required to take an additional examination in the subject of Liturgical Studies. The examination syllabus must include both “Sacramental Celebrations” and “Celebrations in the Rhythm of Time.” If desired, it is possible to agree on a topic for in-depth discussion at the beginning of the examination; please arrange this in advance during office hours.
