Alexander Breder was born in 1978 in Halle (Westf.), Germany. In 2005, he received his Diploma degree from Bielefeld University. As an undergraduate, he was working on the synthesis of cyclic peptides via ruthenium-catalyzed ring-closing metathesis in the group of Prof. Norbert Sewald (externer Link, öffnet neues Fenster). Subsequently, he moved to the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH), Switzerland, where he joined Prof. Erick M. Carreira (externer Link, öffnet neues Fenster)'s research group. During his doctoral studies he was working on the synthesis of marine natural products. Upon completion of his Ph.D. in 2009, he joined the group of Prof. Barry M. Trost (externer Link, öffnet neues Fenster) for a postdoctorate at Stanford University, where he investigated ruthenium-catalyzed domino- and consecutive reactions. In December 2011, Alexander Breder started his independent research career at the Institute for Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry at the Georg-August-University Goettingen, Germany. In April 2019 he was appointed as a professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Regensburg, Germany.
