1. An early start
We’ll be introducing you to the Erasmus+ programme as early as the introductory lecture on the NDL – naturally, during the session on interculturality. Even though many students in their first or second semester have other things on their minds than a semester abroad, this is exactly the right time to get the ball rolling. This is because, as early as the second semester, you’ll need to make decisions to ensure your application goes smoothly at the start of the third semester (for a place on the course in the fifth semester).
2. The Right Way
During the second semester, find out about the places available on our exchange programme and draw up a list of your top five universities where you’d like to study. Compare course offerings, read student reviews (available on GRIPS: International Office), and consider a (manageable!) additional budget for countries where you’ll need to pay a bit extra. Don’t let the local language put you off, as you’ll be completing your coursework in German wherever you go. The most important factor in choosing a place should be your curiosity: haven’t you heard of Durham, Opole, Turku, Pécs and Košice yet? Well then...
3. A well-timed final push
At the start of the winter semester in which you are applying for a place at university (for the next winter semester!), you should put together your application documents, which you must submit to the International Office by the end of November. To find out exactly which documents (school reports, language certificates, course lists, etc.) you need, it is best to attend an information session organised by the International Office; the staff there will also be able to provide you with expert advice during their consultation hours.
