Frequently asked questions
- FAQ 1: Is it possible to substitute any of the courses necessary for eligibility?
No. Your bachelor’s in economics or business has to include 20 ECTS in micro and macro, further 20 ECTS in Economics, and 15 ECTS in math, statistics, and econometrics. Knowledge of introductory econometrics is indispensable. If your bachelor’s does not meet these requirements, there is no chance of being accepted to our M.Sc. Standard bachelor’s degrees in management or accounting, e.g., do not make you eligible for our M.Sc. in Economics. - FAQ 2: Can I get information on whether I’m eligible before my application is processed formally?
No. The application committee will check your application and inform you about the outcome quickly after the end of the application period. Please refrain from asking for provisional assessments of your eligibility. You will not receive a reply. - FAQ 3: Can I get assistance in the application process?
No. The application platform works without personal interaction, and it does work. It is up to you to carefully go through the steps of the application procedure and give your input. - FAQ 4: Is the application and enrolment process fully online?
Yes. The application platform is fully online. If you are admitted to the program, you will be informed about the next steps you have to take in order to enroll. This process, too, is fully online, based on digital documents only.
Subject-Specific Language Requirements
Proof of knowledge of English at level B2 of the common european framework of reference for languages (CEFR) is required.
Frequently asked questions
- FAQ 1: Do I need a TOEFL, IELTS, or similar certificate of English proficiency at the B2 level if I my bachelor’s program was fully taught in English?
No. In this case you just have to give us proof that the language of instruction was English. A school certificate obtained in an English speaking country (e.g., Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, UK, USA) also substitutes for a TOEFL certificate. - FAQ 2: Do I need basic German language proficiency at the time when I apply?
No. You need A1 proficiency after one semester in the program. Of course, basic German makes life on the campus and in Germany in general much easier.
