The major scholarly work of the internationally renowned Old Testament scholar Erich Zenger, who passed away 10 years ago on 4 April 2010, is, just like his tireless commitment to theology, the Church and society, driven by a desire to make the Bible – above all its first part, the Old Testament – a guide for learning and living in the present day. The essays collected in this volume, some of which are previously unpublished, illustrate this; they range from his first commentary on a psalm (Ps 8) for the major Herder Commentary he conceived to the final lecture he delivered in Münster Cathedral shortly before his death.
