Forum for Sustainability

The Forum for Sustainability is a newly established, interdisciplinary format at the University of Regensburg, which took place for the first time on 3 July 2024. It is aimed at academics from all faculties in order to present research on the topic of sustainability, promote networking and initiate interdisciplinary cooperation.

Outlook for 12 June 2026

After two successful events in previous years, we are continuing our efforts to strengthen a network of researchers working on sustainability-related topics. This year, we place particular emphasis on fostering connections among early-career scholars. We therefore especially invite PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and non-tenured faculty to express their interest in presenting sustainability-focused research. Our goal is to offer engaging presentation formats and ample opportunities for meaningful networking. Of course, all UR researchers with an interest in sustainability topics are warmly invited and encouraged to attend.

The Forum for Sustainability 2026 will take place all day on 12 June 2026.

Potential Formats:

  • Presentations
  • Flash Talks
  • Posters
  • Networking formats

All researchers interested in participating and, if applicable, presenting their research (title and abstract required), please respond to the call until April 26, 2026 by completing the online form:

Looking Back on July 2, 2025

Following the successful launch in 2024, we are continuing our efforts to build a network of researchers working on projects in the field of sustainability.

The second Forum for Sustainability on 2 July 2025 was dedicated to the key topic of "Interdisciplinary research and research funding" and the question: What does it take to make interdisciplinary collaboration in sustainability-oriented research a success?

Two keynote speeches provided the introduction: Prof Dr Andreas Lange, Professor of Economics and Cluster of Excellence "Climate, Climate Change and Society" at the University of Hamburg, and Prof Dr Richard Weihrich, Professor of Chemistry of Materials and Resources at the University of Augsburg, reported on their experiences with interdisciplinary collaboration and funding opportunities in sustainability research. Building on these contributions, approaches from the University of Regensburg were presented, further discussions were encouraged and an open space for dialogue was created.

Looking Back on July 3, 2024

On 3 July 2024, the Forum for Sustainability took place for the first time at the University of Regensburg (UR).

The motto of the forum was "Research on and about sustainability". The topic was explored from very different angles with keynote speeches from 11 UR faculties: from microbes, green lab certifications, sustainable financing, mindfulness, digitalisation and sustainable chemistry to the question of how language can shape transformation processes. The event impressively demonstrated the wide range of topics in the field of sustainability that scientists at the University of Regensburg are working on and researching.

The aim of the event was to make sustainability research at the UR visible, promote interdisciplinary exchange and initiate joint research projects. Researchers at all career levels - from established academics to young researchers in the accompanying poster exhibition - were able to engage in dialogue with each other.

Programme from 03.07.2024
