Paul-Gabriel is a French researcher specializing in inorganic and organic chemistry, with a focus on molecular design, electrocatalysis, and the development of metal complexes for energy-related applications. He obtained Bachelor’s degrees — one in Physiology and Neurosciences (2016) and another in Biochemistry and Pharmaceutical Chemistry (2017) — and a Master’s degree (Biochemistry and Bio-organic Chemistry, 2019) from Aix-Marseille University. His Ph.D. studies in organic chemistry at Aix-Marseille University/CINaM (2022) involved the synthesis of porphyrins and corroles for electrocatalytic applications. His doctoral work was recognized with a Ph.D. prize awarded by the GDR Mapyrro. He subsequently held a temporary professorship and a postdoctoral position at Grenoble Alpes University/DCM from 2023 - 2026, working on the development of novel tetraazamacrocyclic cobalt complexes for electro- and photocatalytic reduction of protons and CO2 , and on mechanistic aspects of inorganic hydride electroregeneration for CO2 reduction (part of the CEA/DRF “Air Capture” project). Since July 2026, he is a member of the Hess group, where he is developing new Mabiq bimetallic complexes for photocatalytic CO2 reduction.

Nataliia is from Ukraine, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Electrochemistry in 2020. In 2022, she moved to Giessen, Germany, and joined Justus Liebig University as an exchange student, working on copper(III) catalysts while completing her master’s thesis. Inspired by her mentors, Nataliia decided to pursue a PhD in the Department of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Regensburg in 2024. Currently, she is working on the investigation of the electrochemical, photochemical and spectroscopic characterization of a Mn-Mabiq complex and a series of bimetallic CoMabiq-CuXanphos complexes as catalysts for the H2 evolution.

I am from Regensburg, Germany, and I am currently a Bachelor's student in Biochemistry at the University of Regensburg. I recently joined the Hess lab as a student assistant, supporting the team with general lab work. I wanted to gain some laboratory experience beyond the coursework and get a closer look at how research in chemistry actually works in practice. This has already given me valuable insights into new methods and how a research lab operates.
