The seed bank Regensburg offers various services to nature conservation stakeholders (such as upper and lower nature conservation authorities, nature conservation and landscape management associations, area managers or the State Office for the Environment) in order to contribute to the long-term conservation of endangered species.
Seed storage
Nature conservation stakeholders can collect seeds of endangered species in accordance with the guidelines of the seed bank Regensburg and have them stored in the seed bank for safeguarding. The purification of the seed samples, drying and storage are carried out by the seed bank.
Quality control and determination of viability
The quality of the seeds collected by the nature conservation stakeholders is checked before they are stored. X-ray tests are carried out to determine the filling rate and the viability of the seeds is determined using germination and tetrazolium tests. The results of the tests are made available to the nature conservation stakeholders.
Provision of seeds
The seed bank makes seed originally collected by nature conservation stakeholders available again for population support or (re-)establishment measures on request (excluding the seed for long-term storage or the duplicate). Seed from existing accessions can also be used for nature conservation measures within the scope of existing possibilities.
