Information on doctoral degrees in the natural sciences

At the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, students can obtain a Doctor of Natural Sciences (Dr. rer. nat.) or a Doctor of Philosophy in Natural Sciences (Dr. phil. nat.) for a teaching degree. A doctoral degree serves as proof of the ability to carry out in-depth scientific research and opens the way to a career in academia as well as career paths in the private sector.

If you are interested in undertaking a PhD at our faculty, you should first get in touch with a professor whose research is closely related to the field in which you wish to pursue your PhD. You can then discuss your PhD proposal and the next steps with them.

Requirements

The requirements for a PhD at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy are as follows: you must have completed a degree program qualifying for doctoral study in a subject within chemistry, pharmacy or an equivalent field, with a minimum grade of ‘good’. Please refer to the current PhD regulations for detailed information.
