Brief description of the project
What is the aim? With the Campus Clean-Up, we want to rid the university and OTH campuses of litter, particularly plastic. On the one hand, because a clean campus is simply more attractive, but above all to reduce the burden of litter and feed recyclable materials into the recycling cycle. This helps to protect the campus as a habitat for insects, birds and our wildlife.
When? Every year during European Week for Waste Reduction. In 2026, this will take place from 21 to 29 November, with a focus on resource conservation.
Our campus clean-up will take place on 24 November 2026 from 12 noon to 4 pm. You can borrow litter pickers and other equipment from the site huts between the UR and OTH Regensburg.
Participants:
- Green Offices of UR & OTH Regensburg
- University Library Sustainability Working Group
- Sustainability Unit of the UR Student Union

The strangest find of the day was a bent fork. Bottle tops were also collected and subsequently donated to Kronkorken e.V. (external link, opens in a new window)
What is European Waste Prevention Week?
That’s what it’s all about
Waste prevention helps to conserve resources and protect the climate. This is because the manufacture of many products consumes a great deal of resources and generates emissions. That is why everyday items, for example, should be consumed mindfully, used for as long as possible and, ideally, recycled at the end of their useful life. This is what the three Rs of the Europe-wide Waste Prevention Week stand for: Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.
But the campaign week also symbolises the fact that tens of thousands of people across Europe come together every November to champion waste prevention. Even the smallest action contributes to better resource conservation and can set an example for others.
