Note on biochemistry A

From WS 24/25, a new examination regulation will apply for first-year students in the BSc Biology and Biology teaching degree programmes. The two lectures "Biochemistry A" and "Biochemistry B" (only for BSc) will be replaced by the two new lectures "Fundamentals of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry" in the summer semester and "Biochemistry" in the winter semester.

If you started your degree programme before WS 24/25, the old examination regulations still apply to you with the lectures Biochemistry A, which was offered for the last time in WS 24/25, and Biochemistry B, which will be offered for the last time in SS 25.

The following applies to first-year students before WS 24/25:

If the written exams (regular and retake) for Biochemistry A were not passed in WS 24/25, a second retake opportunity will be offered. This will take place at the same time as the regular written exam for the new biochemistry lecture in WS 25/26 on 19 February 2026.

However, you can also take the written exam for the new biochemistry lecture in WS 25/26 as a retake. To do this, you should attend the new biochemistry lecture. The written exams will continue to count. This means that if you have already failed Biochemistry A twice, the written exam for the new Biochemistry lecture will be your third and final attempt.

If the lecture Biochemistry A was not taken regularly in the 3rd semester, you can also take the new lecture Biochemistry in WS 25/26 as a substitute.

In both cases, it is recommended that you also attend the lecture "Fundamentals of molecular biology" in SS 25. This can be booked in the elective courses in.
