Work placement

Work placement (all degree programmes)

  • Duration: 8 weeks; can be split into a maximum of 4 instalments of 2 weeks each; also possible abroad
  • Locations: Production, processing, trading or service companies
  • The following are not recognised: basic military service, alternative service, cashiering, warehouse work, delivery trips, service in the catering industry and internships that had to be completed as part of school education. Holiday jobs or similar can be recognised as long as the formalities are in order.
  • Have the work placement confirmed with a signature and stamp on a certificate form from the work placement office at the University of Regensburg.
  • Insurance cover is provided by the university if you are a registered student.
  • Best time: Before starting your studies, but after graduating from high school. Latest time: Registration for the state examination.
  • Organisation: On your own initiative at the relevant companies.

Orientation internship

Orientation internship (all degree programmes)

  • Duration: 3 - 4 weeks (approx. 20 lessons / week; at least 3 lessons / day) during the lecture-free period.
  • Best time for the orientation internship: Before starting the degree programme. High school graduates can start the orientation internship after they have successfully passed their final Abitur examination.
  • The orientation internship must be completed at the latest before the start of the pedagogical-didactic school internship.
  • At least 1 week must be completed at a public (i.e. state or municipal) school or a state-recognised public school.
  • Two different types of school must be visited. At least one week of the internship must be completed at a secondary school or a special needs centre. Take the opportunity to familiarise yourself with school types for which you are not aiming to qualify as a teacher (including child and youth welfare facilities). When studying for a teaching degree at primary schools, you can also visit pre-school educational institutions. When studying for a teaching degree at grammar schools, the grammar school at which the higher education entrance qualification was obtained should not be chosen if possible!

pedagogical-didactic school internship

Pedagogy and didactics internship (all degree programmes)

  • Prerequisites: Orientation internship and the completed school education module
  • Duration: approx. 150 - 160 teaching hours, usually during the lecture-free period in two consecutive school semesters
  • The pedagogical-didactic school internship can be completed at any public (i.e. state or municipal) or state-recognised public school in Bavaria.

    LA GY: from the ministerial representative for the grammar schools in the region where the internship is to be completed.

  • LA RS: from the ministerial representative for secondary schools in the region where the internship is to be completed.
  • LA GS and LAHS: via the internship office of the University of Regensburg

Study-related didactics internship

Didactics internship (all degree programmes)

  • Duration: 1 semester, Wednesday mornings
  • It is compulsory to attend the accompanying seminar in Biology didactics (compulsory course).
  • The work placement should not be completed before the 3rd semester and not after the 5th semester. For teaching degree students at grammar schools, it is only possible in the 6th or 7th semester for timetable reasons.
  • This work placement cannot be completed in the extension subject.
  • The didactics internship can only be completed at certain internship schools.
  • Organisation: Apply via the internship office (note deadlines!)
    LA GY: to the ministerial representative for the grammar schools in the region where the internship is to be completed.
    LA RS: with the ministerial representative for secondary schools in the region where the internship is to be completed.
    LA GS and LA HS: via the Internship Office of the University of Regensburg.

level-specific internship (only for LA Grundschule and LA Hauptschule)

Level-specific work placement (SSP) (LA Grundschule, LA Hauptschule)

  • The SSP is subject-independent and must be completed in the respective type of school.
  • The SSP always takes place on Wednesdays during the semester and comprises three hours of lessons and one hour of discussion.
  • The SSP can only be completed after all internships (with the exception of the company internship) have been completed.
  • Accompanying courses for this internship are organised by the Chair of Elementary School Education or the Chair of School Education.
  • The allocation to the individual accompanying courses depends on the supervising teachers.
  • A teaching trial is compulsory.
