From 30 May to 20 June 2026, Marta Vicente, Professor of History at the University of Kansas (external link, opens in a new window), joined DIMAS as a Visiting Fellow, continuing an exchange that began with her participation in the DIMAS (LSC funded) “Archetypes” workshop in November 2025.
During her stay, again funded by LSC, Marta contributed to the intellectual life at DIMAS and the University of Regensburg through a series of talks, discussions, and exchanges around gender, sexuality, history, and digital culture. On 16 June, she presented her work at the DIMAS DAS|LAB in a talk titled Gender is Dead: Trans Artists of Color in the Post-Digital Era. The talk connected Vicente’s historical research on gender and transgender narratives with contemporary questions of artistic practice, identity, and post-digital culture.
Marta also participated in the 2026 LSC Annual Conference, joining the roundtable The (In)Dependence of Knowledge? Academic Freedom Today on 17 June. The three-week fellowship thus provided valuable opportunities for sustained conversations with researchers at DIMAS and across Regensburg. It also allowed Marta to wrap up her current book project on transgender narratives from the Inquisition to the internet. Her stay strengthened an already productive exchange between the University of Kansas and the University of Regensburg and opened up possibilities for further collaboration.
