Welcome to the GAMM Activity Group of Analysis of PDE and Calculus and Variations
Partial differential equations are central to mathematical modeling in mechanics, physics, and many emerging scientific fields. New model give rise to novel classes of PDEs and pose challenging analytical questions. Rigorous analysis is essential for understanding qualitative behavior and forms the foundation for the development of efficient and reliable numerical methods. Closely linked, the calculus of variations provides a powerful framework for characterizing optimal states and dynamics through energy minimization principles, thereby revealing the underlying geometric and physical structure of models in mechanics and beyond.
This activity group started in 2026 as the successor to the group Analysis of Partial Differential Equations, which was founded in 2013 at the GAMM Annual Meeting in Novi Sad. The goal of the group is to strengthen cooperation among mathematicians working in the fields of Partial Differential Equations and the Calculus of Variations.
