20 Years of BAYHOST - a film
For 20 years, the Bavarian Academic Centre for Central, Eastern and Sudheastern Europe (BAYHOST) has been supporting scientific cooperation and academic exchange between Bavaria and more than 20 partner countries in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe. In the video, BAYHOST provides an insight into its extensive work on scholarship and funding programs, consulting, conferences, workshops, university days, and delegation trips that bring Bavaria and Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe closer together.
The origins of BAYHOST
Strategy
At the end of the 1990s, the Bavarian State Government—represented by the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts—began the targeted establishment of regional centers of excellence in order to promote the internationalization of universities in Bavaria.
Decision and founding
Based on the University of Regensburg's strong partnerships in Eastern Europe, the decision was made in 2004 to establish the Bavarian Academic Center for Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe (BAYHOST) there. It was founded in 2005
Role and competence
As a central institution for all Bavarian universities, BAYHOST has since promoted scientific dialogue in research and teaching with Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe. It coordinates mobility programs, supports the establishment and maintenance of university cooperation, and advises on funding opportunities for students, researchers, and institutions.
BTHA
In December 2016, the Bavarian-Czech University Agency (BTHA) was founded under the umbrella of BAYHOST with the specific aim of strengthening cooperation between Bavarian and Czech universities.
Coordination Office Ukraine
In response to the war in Ukraine, the BAYHOST Coordination Office Ukraine was established in April 2022. It offers Ukrainian students and academics who have fled their country advice and support in establishing academic networks.
