The most important information about travelling to Regensburg:
You can reach Regensburg by plane (via Munich or Nuremberg airports), by train, by bus or by car.
Arrival by Plane and/or Train
Regensburg itself does not have an airport. The nearest airports are in Munich or Nuremberg. There are regular trains from both airports to Regensburg, from Munich there is even an hourly direct train from Terminal 2 to Regensburg main station. You can find the exact timetables and costs on the Deutsche Bahn website .
As an alternative to the train, there are also long-distance buses and private shuttle companies that will take you from the airport to Regensburg. Long-distance buses usually depart several times a day directly from the airport terminal. You can find more information on the websites of the respective providers. Private shuttle companies such as the"Airportliner" in Regensburg pick you up directly from the gate or a collection point at the airport and take you to your desired address in Regensburg. Please note that this service must be booked a few days before departure. You can find more information on their website.

Arrival by Car
Two major motorways run through Regensburg, the A3 and the A93. To get to the university, take either the "Universität / Klinikum" exit on the A3 or the "Regensburg - Kumpfmühl" exit on the A93. The UR car parks are summarised in a site plan.

Cycling Through Regensburg
Cycling Through Regensburg
Foto von Micheile Henderson auf Unsplash Regensburg is a cycling city. This means that the bicycle is the main means of transport in the city centre. Most car parks are reserved for residents, so you are quicker by bike. There are also many beautiful cycle paths in the surrounding area.
You can buy a second-hand bike cheaply at a flea market or in a bike shop. When you return to your home country, you can usually sell the bike again without any problems.

Semester ticket for students
In Regensburg there is a so-called semester ticket for students. This allows you to use all buses in the city area and within the zones of the RVV transport association (including trains). The semester ticket is part of the student ID card, so no separate ticket is required!
Semester ticket for enrolled doctoral students
Enrolled doctoral candidates can use the semester ticket on their student ID card in the same way as students, provided they have paid the semester fee upon enrolment.
Visiting academics (without enrolment)
If they cannot be enrolled at the UR, they will not receive a semester ticket. They can buy inexpensive weekly or monthly tickets from the RVV. For employees of the UR there is a discounted annual ticket, the so-called Jobticket.
Visiting academics should contact the Welcome Centre directly if they have any questions about the RVV offer.
You can find more information on the semester ticket, bus timetables and fares at RVV. For better orientation, we recommend the RVV app for smartphones.

Travelling Through Germany by Train
Germany has a well-developed railway network and a wide range of fares for every target group. Frequent travellers should find out about DB's discount and bonus programmes (Deutschlandticket, BahnCard, weekend ticket, etc.). For travelling within Bavaria, the so-called "Bayernticket" is recommended.
If you have a semester ticket, you should definitely take a look at the RVV tariff zone plan, as travelling on regional trains within the plan is then free of charge! (Please note: the train must stop at the relevant station within the fare zone!)
Enrolled students with a semester ticket can purchase a discounted Deutschlandticket for students. This ticket allows you to use local public transport and local rail transport throughout Germany. Details can be found on the homepage of the Regensburger Verkehrsverbund (RVV). Please note that the Deutschlandticket is a subscription that must be cancelled in good time (by the 10th of the month at the latest), otherwise the subscription will be automatically renewed. Below you will find a tutorial that explains step by step how to purchase the Deutschlandticket for students.
