Admission received?
Admission to a Degree Program or the Preparatory German Course
Upon receiving your letter of admission, you will be one step closer to pursuing your desired degree program at the University of Regensburg.
Before you can actually use your student ID and university account, there are a few more steps you need to take: firstly, you need to accept the place offered to you for the study program, and secondly, you need to enroll.
We will support you during your enrolment and start of studies with our orientation program Startklar, which takes place partly online and partly in person. We strongly recommend that you participate in the program to obtain all the important information about your new life in Regensburg and to get to know other students and the city of Regensburg.
1. Online Enrolment until March 6, 2026
Online enrolment and payment of the semester fee serve as confirmation that you wish to take up the place offered. You will not receive a student ID card at this stage. The deadlines for this step are stated on the letter of admission (first page) and must be met. Otherwise, UR will assume that you are not interested in the place.
Important Notes:
- If you are unable to meet the deadline for important reasons, please contact the Registrar's Office directly: application.international(at)ur.de
- Transfer the semester fee within the deadline to avoid delays. Please ensure that the purpose of the transfer is exactly as stated on the letter of admission. Otherwise, there will be difficulties in assigning the payment to your application.
- Health insurance status: If you do not yet have health insurance coverage in Germany, select ‘not covered by statutory health insurance/exempt’ when asked this question on the campus portal.
At the end of the online enrolment process, upload additional documents and a photograph for enrolment in the system.
Enrolment is the final formal step on the path to starting your studies. During this phase, the Registrar's Office checks your documents and records your data in a file, assigns you a student account (so-called ‘RZ account’) for the university's IT systems, and creates your UR student ID card.
Once your enrolment has been successfully completed, your status in the campus portal will change to 'enrolled'!
Which documents do you need for online enrolment?
Proof of Transfer of the Semester Fee
During the online enrolment period, transfer the semester fee to the university. You will find the bank details on your letter of admission. We require proof of the transfer, e.g. online banking document, photo/copy of the transfer slip.
Proof of Health Insurance
You can only enrol at the University of Regensburg if you present a proof of health insurance.
The insurance certificate required for enrolment must be sent electronically by a German statutory health insurance. You must request your health insurance to send this certificate for enrolment purposes.
The following documents will not be accepted:
- (Scanned) copy of your EHIC card (European Health Insurance Card)
- Health insurance membership certificate
- Contract or policy documents
We have prepared a detailed information sheet for you (see links below). In addition, one month before the start of the semester, you will find important explanations on the subject of health insurance in the online course ‘Startklar’.

What happens if the documents are incomplete or incorrect?
Registrations will only be reviewed and processed after the deadline. The average processing time is 3 weeks.
If the Registrar's Office determines that the documents are incomplete or have not been submitted in the required form, you will be notified. It is important that you check your email account and spam folder regularly.
DSH Exam
Applicants who take the DSH examination on campus before the start of the semester (admission with the note ‘DSH missing’) should also upload all other documents by the specified deadline. The examination results will then be forwarded internally after the examination and enrolment will be carried out without you having to communicate the results yourself.
2. Receiving your UR Card
Once the Registrar's Office has successfully enrolled you, you will see the status ‘enrolled’ under Application Status in the Campus Portal.
You will then receive your student ID card by post at the address you provided in your application, provided that this address is in Germany and your enrolment was successful.
If you are not yet able to provide an address in Germany, we will keep your UR card until you provide us with a suitable address after your arrival, or you can pick it up in person at the Registrar's Office. The access data for your digital university account (RZ account) is available in the campus portal in your welcome letter.
