Preparatory Intensive German Language Course
One of our most popular programmes is definitely the Intensive Language Course (ILC). This is probably due to the fact that participants have time to get to know the city and the surrounding area in addition to their German lessons. Our team of ILC tutors organises various excursions and social activities such as a city tour of Regensburg, a Bavarian evening with typical Bavarian food, a games evening, hikes, etc.
The International Office aims to help all new students arriving in Regensburg integrate into the city and the university as quickly as possible. Since exchange students often come to Regensburg for only a short time, it is important to collaborate with various network partners so that the time available can be used as effectively as possible, especially during the first few weeks. To reach this goal, the International Office works closely with other student organizations, such as the ERASMUS Student Network Regensburg (ESN-Regensburg), Tutor International (Studierendenwerk), the campus communities (ESG and KGH), and other organizations on campus. Additional activities take place during the semester to support students even after the initial orientation phase.
Overview Intensive Language Course
Course Dates
The course always takes place approx. 4-6 weeks before the start of lectures (March/April and September/October). You can find more information on the specific course times and arrival dates in our factsheet and academic calendar on “Semester Dates”.
Target Group
- Exchange students who would like to acquire basic knowledge of German for everyday life
- Exchange students who would like to improve their German before the start of lectures
Important note:
Although the course is very intensive, students without prior knowledge of German or with basic level knowledge will most likely not be able to follow lectures in German even after the course. We therefore recommend that you take additional German courses during the semester. These courses during the semester are free of charge and are offered at all levels (A1-C2).
