Civic Engagement

How can I get involved in the local community?

Are you interested in social and political issues? Would you like to volunteer in the local community?

If so, you’re sure to find interesting opportunities here that are particularly well-suited for international students.

Campus Asyl (external link, opens in a new window)

CampusAsyl is an association with many volunteers. All volunteers want to support refugees as they arrive in Regensburg, and help them integrate in Regensburg. There are many different groups at CampusAsyl. You can engage yourself in our campus group, support language tandems, support school children, and more. Knowing German is not necessary in order to get involved and support the refugees here in Regensburg.

Europa meets School. Bringing the World Into the Classroom (external link, opens in a new window)

Students from all over the world and from all academic disciplines work together with a school class to create a project about their home country. In collaboration with teachers at the partner schools in Regensburg and the program’s mentors, you will have the opportunity to choose a personal, individual topic and develop initial plans for your project. There are no limits to your imagination. The topic can be freely chosen from the fields of history, politics, language, food, music, sports, or other areas of interest.

UNICEF Regensburg (external link, opens in a new window)

Students with a good German language knowladge are always welcome to support the local UNICEF group. Since the group is primarily active through information booths, the sale of Christmas cards, and special events at children’s festivals, a good command of German is required.

„ReNeNa“ – Regensburger Nice Neighbors (external link, opens in a new window)

This is the name of a project run by the Regensburg Senior Citizens’ Office, which aims to help older adults continue living in their familiar surroundings and neighborhoods for as long as possible while receiving the necessary support. The program offers services for seniors, such as assistance with small DIY projects or questions about smartphones and computers, as well as visits, walks, and help with shopping. The program relies on personal connections with the various neighborhood liaisons in the city’s districts.
