When is a traineeship subject to minimum wage?

When Does the Minimum Wage Apply?

In principle, all voluntary traineeships lasting more than 3 months / 90 days are subject to the minimum wage. As the University of Regensburg does not usually have funds available for minimum wage funding, longer traineeships which are not compulsory traineeships cannot be carried out at the UR.

Traineeships at the University of Regensburg are usually unpaid!

Exceptions to the minimum wage (according to §22 MiLoG)

  • Compulsory traineeships: if your traineehip is a compulsory traineeship as part of your degree programme, please submit the relevant proof, usually an excerpt from the study regulations.
  • Voluntary traineeships under 3 months (for more information see §22 para. 1 no. 2 & 3 MiLoG)

Graduates (= no longer enrolled at a home university) do not fall under the exceptions. Therefore, traineehips for graduates cannot be carried out.
