Unfortunately, internships abroad are often unpaid and sometimes you even have to pay fees for the placement. However, there are various ways to receive funding for an internship abroad.
Internship funding: Erasmus+ and PROMOS
If you have organised an internship yourself and are not completing it at an institution where funding is available directly from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), you can apply for internship funding from the University of Regensburg's International Office under certain requirements.
Depending on the destination country, either Erasmus+ internship funding (Europe) or PROMOS internship funding (overseas) is available.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers funding for self-organised internships if the internship institution meets certain requirements. In addition to the DAAD, there are also a number of other organisations that support internship projects worldwide.
Internships in the Czech Republic (BTHA)
Students from Bavarian universities and colleges can apply to the Bavarian-Czech Academic Agency (BTHA) for a flexible mobility grant to complete an internship in the Czech Republic and gain practical experience in the neighbouring country.
- The Internship should last at least four weeks.
- Maximum funding amount: €450

- German missions abroad (e.g. embassies, consulates)

Travel allowances
Students can also apply directly to the DAAD for travel grants for internships abroad via IAESTE, AIESEC, bmvd, ZAD and DCGM. Applications for these organised internships abroad must be submitted exclusively via the DAAD portal at least two weeks before the start of the internship.
RISE worldwide
With its RISE programme, the DAAD offers Bachelor's students worldwide in the natural sciences, life sciences and engineering (from the 2nd semester) the opportunity to complete an international research laboratory (6 weeks to 3 months). The internships are linked to a full scholarship.
The application period is usually from mid-October to the end of November, with the exception of Canada (beginning of August until mid-September).
