Sometimes everyday life at university just becomes too much – and that's perfectly okay. If you feel stressed, sad or overwhelmed, you don't have to deal with it alone.

On this page, we have compiled the most important information that can help you in a difficult situation.

Counselling for UR Students

Psychological and Psychotherapeutic Counselling at the UR

The Mental Health Counselling Service helps students who are experiencing crises in various areas of their lives and offers psychological and psychotherapeutic counselling.

The consultations are completely confidential and free of charge! You can arrange a consultation in English with Dr Christine Haecker.

Psychological Counselling at the Studierendenwerk Niederbayern-Oberpfalz

Studying often brings many changes – a new city, new friends, a new flat, a new role as a student and a new way of learning. These are all wonderful challenges – but as an international student, it is easy to feel overwhelmed. The Studierendenwerk psychological counselling team is here to listen to your concerns, big or small, and offer professional and confidential support.

Student Life Counselling Service of the Studierendenwerk

Social counsellors support students and prospective students with financial, economic and/or personal problems or questions. They help you develop strategies for financing your studies, taking into account different life situations and different phases of your studies, e.g. if you want to start a family during your studies or if your health is impaired.


Self-Help Groups for Students and Nightline Listening Service

  • Self-Help Groups at UR

    The groups coordinated by the AStA are intended to provide students with a space to share experiences and find like-minded people. The student self-help groups are led by committed students who are themselves affected by the respective illness. Current topics:

    • ADHD/ADD
    • High sensitivity and high intelligence
    • Grief
    • Depression
    • Diabetes

    Students from UR and OTH meet regularly for discussion groups (self-help groups) at the OTH student union building.

    There are currently meetings on various topics:

    • Caregiving relatives
    • Practical self-help
    • Depression and anxiety (on hold)
    • Open group (on hold)
    • Chronic illnesses (on hold)

    Interested students can come directly to the appointments. Prior registration is not necessary.

    Listening service and chat for students by students. The aim is to offer students in difficult situations a shoulder to lean on via telephone.

Crisis Service Bavaria (external link, opens in a new window)

The Bavarian Crisis Service is a psychosocial counselling and support service. The free helpline offers qualified advice and support to people in mental health crises, those affected and their relatives. Professionals can also contact the crisis service. It is available around the clock (24/7).

If necessary, a mobile emergency team will be on site within an hour to provide advice and assistance. The Bavarian Crisis Service is available throughout Bavaria. Advice and support in English is available.

The crisis chat service advises people on their worries and problems: anytime, free of charge and confidentially. The chat service is staffed by well-trained and experienced professionals.

The service for young people up to the age of 25 operates 24/7.

TelefonSeelsorge® is there to listen to all kinds of worries and is also available in the middle of the night. Around one million calls are made every year, free of charge and around the clock. Whether you are old or young, working, a housewife, an apprentice or a pensioner – anyone can call. The volunteers are aware of their responsible task and take all calls seriously – whether at eight in the morning or midnight.

If you would like to communicate in your native language, there is also a list of helplines in many different languages.
