Background to the conference
The starting point was the discovery of the French newspaper
"Le Pour et le Contre - Journal hebdomadaire des prisonniers de Regensburg"
and a previously unknown collection of theatre and concert programmes,
acquired by the Regensburg State Library.
This discovery led to the reopening of the Regensburg prisoner of war camp (1914-1918), which was located on an island on the Danube in the centre of the city.
The conference was dedicated to:
- the historical and cultural conditions of being a prisoner of war
- french soldiers in Germany
- german soldiers in France
- the political, cultural and history of science context of Franco-German and European relations
- the role of written, audio and visual media
- today's perception of war, captivity and culture
