Media studies is offered as a subject within the combinatorial B.A. programme. It can be completed as

  • Bachelor's subject (in combination with a Second Major or two Minor Subjects)
  • 2. Major subject (in combination with a Bachelor's subject) or
  • Minor Subject (in combination with a Bachelor's subject and another minor subject)

Learning objectives

On successful completion of the Bachelor's degree programme in Media Studies, students will have the skills to

  • Discursively grasp and present problems and issues;
  • Apply methods of analysing media content;
  • describe media-historical, media-theoretical and information-technical contexts using appropriate technical terms;
  • use this basic methodological and systematic knowledge to independently develop, work on and discuss new problem areas and research questions in media studies and to defend their own approaches argumentatively;
  • assess the feasibility and realisability of practical media projects;
  • analyse and evaluate the overall cultural effects of the media and the role of the media in society;
  • outline processes of digitalisation in the media sector and analyse their influence on knowledge culture.

Pre-registration and enrolment

Enrolment in media studies as a subject in the combinatorial B.A. is only possible in the winter semester.
The degree programme is not subject to admission restrictions.

Requirements for enrolment, in addition to meeting the general qualification requirements for the combinatorial B.A., is a timely pre-registration by 15 July. Pre-registration takes place via the university'sapplication portal (external link, opens in a new window). An application for the subject of media studies in the combinatorial B.A. programme must be submitted there.

The B.A. sub-degree programme in Media Studies is offered inaccordance with the Bachelor's examination and study regulations of the Faculties of Arts I-III( (external link, opens in a new window)www.uni-r.de/studium/pruefungsordnungen/bachelor/philosophische-fakultaeten/index.html) of the University of Regensburg (the respective study/examination regulations are also the only binding source with regard to the information published here). The latest Study and Examination Regulations adopted before the start of studies are valid for students.

Study and examination achievements

The information published here attempts as best as possible to reflect the contents of the Study and Examination Regulations valid from winter semester 2014/15(http://www.uni-r.de/studium/pruefungsordnungen/bachelor/philosophische-fakultaeten/index.html) (external link, opens in a new window), but these are binding.

Media studies as a Bachelor's subject

As part of the degree programme, proof of at least 90 CP must be provided in the following modules of the subject:

The subject grade is calculated on the basis of 10% of the module grade for MED-M11, 20% each of the module grades for MED-M12 and MED-M13 and 25% each of the module grades for MED-M19 and MED-M20.

Second Major: Media Studies

As part of the degree programme, proof of at least 60 CP must be provided in the following modules of the subject:

The subject grade is calculated on the basis of 20% of the module grade for MED-M11 and 40% each of the module grades for MED-M12 and MED-M13.

Media studies as a minor subject

As part of the degree programme, students must provide evidence of at least 30 CP in the following modules of the subject:

The subject grade is calculated on the basis of 30% of the module grade for MED-M11 and 70% of the module grade for MED-M16.
