Society for Media Studies (GfM)

Professional organisation for media culture studies in German-speaking countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) with currently around 1,500 members from all university status groups. The GfM publishes the journal Zeitschrift für Medienwissenschaft (external link, opens in a new window) and regularly organises an annual conference at the end of September/beginning of October. From 2019 to 2021, Prof Dr Christiane Heibach (media aesthetics) was the first chair of the board.


Transit- The Regensburg Film Festival (formerly known as HEIMSPIEL)

Annual film festival (external link, opens in a new window) in November with highlights of German-language cinema films. Supported by the Chair of Media Studies.


International Short Film Week Regensburg

International short film festival (external link, opens in a new window) since 1994 with a focus on the competition (international, German and regional) and an extensive supporting programme, which takes place every year in March in Regensburg.


Regensburg Association for Advertising Research (RVW)

The Regensburg Association for Advertising Research (external link, opens in a new window) (RVW) was founded in 2006 as an association of academics from various disciplines and representatives from the media industry. The central object of the RVW is the Regensburg Archive for Advertising Research (external link, opens in a new window) (RAW) of the Regensburg University Library. The aim is to work together on the historical and systematic cataloguing of this archive and on further research into advertising in - in principle - all its forms. The working meetings are also intended as a forum for exchange between theory and practice.

Studentenfunk is the campus radio station in Regensburg. It broadcasts live 24/7 on the internet/via app and offers students the opportunity to try out radio journalism for themselves.
