Certificate in University Teaching Bavaria

Through the ProfiLehrePlus network, Bavarian universities offer all teaching staff the opportunity to systematically develop their university teaching skills with a strong focus on practical application. The programme leads to a certificate that is standardised across Bavaria, providing formal evidence of your teaching competence and your pedagogical and didactic qualifications for future applications.

Please note that most workshops and courses required for the certificate are held in German.

Structure

The Certificate in University Teaching of the Bavarian Universities covers five subject areas and comprises a total of 120 study units (SU) of 45 minutes each. Participants are required to attend workshops in the following areas:

Your path to the certificate

① First, choose the workshops or tailored support from the CTL programme that best match your interests and needs.

② As you progress through the programme, please keep the certificate structure outlined above in mind when selecting additional workshops and tailored support to ensure that you cover all required areas.

③ To complete the certificate, you are required to write a teaching philosophy (external link, opens in a new window), which counts as 10 SU towards Area D, Reflection & Evaluation. Accompanying workshops (external link, opens in a new window) on developing your teaching philosophy are offered twice per semester.

Application

Once you have completed all work units in the areas, apply for your certificate by e-mail to zhw(at)ur.de. (opens your email program)
The following documents are required:

a completed application form listing all university teaching courses you have completed.
for external courses or recognised credits: a scan of the certificate of attendance.

Advanced level

After completing the Certificate in University Teaching of the Bavarian Universities, you can extend and certify your university teaching skills at an advanced level. The advanced-level certificate comprises a total of 200 study units (SU): it includes your existing Certificate in University Teaching (120 SU) in full and adds a further 80 study units (200 SU in total).

The focus of the advanced level is on reflecting on your own teaching.

The components of the advanced level are:

Teaching portfolio

Building on your teaching philosophy, your teaching portfolio brings together selected key documents from your teaching and reflects on your own teaching competence. You can also use the portfolio to present yourself externally, for example as part of an application.

Teaching project

In the teaching project you plan, design and reflect on a course of your own on the basis of university teaching principles. A university teaching trainer supports and accompanies you over one semester.

Fellowship

You present your teaching project as a poster presentation at the Spotlight on Teaching event.

Registration for the advanced level

The prerequisites for taking part in the advanced level are the Certificate in University Teaching of the Bavarian Universities (approx. 120 WU) and teaching duties of 2 semester hours per week (SWS) in the current semester at the University of Regensburg.
