On 10 June 2026 the second Spotlight on Teaching took place in the University of Regensburg’s central library. This year the event was dedicated to the theme of science communication.
Keynote and panel discussion
Prof Dr Volker Busch opened the event with his inspiring and entertaining keynote on science communication (external link, opens in a new window). He shared personal experiences as a science communicator and pointed out important aspects of communicating research.
In the panel discussion that followed, Prof Dr Volker Busch, Prof Dr Angela Ganter, PD Dr habil Wieland Kranich, Clara de Oliveira Seyler and Dr Aleksandra Salamurović discussed a range of perspectives – among them the importance of building communication and presentation skills in study and teaching, and the significance of visibility on social media for researchers. The discussion was moderated by Thomas Neger.
Award ceremony
Another highlight was the presentation of the University of Regensburg’s Teaching Innovation Awards. The following were honoured:
- Prof Dr Rainer Liedtke and Gabriela Dafinger, M.A., for developing and implementing the bachelor’s programme Liberal Arts: Culture, History, Society (curriculum category)
- Tatjana Kühnast, M.A., for the advanced seminar „Prosa und Dramen des Naturalismus“ (course category).
- Agnes Böhmelt, Mag., for establishing the assessment format in the seminar „Utopie und Unvernunft: Feministische Manifeste“ (assessment category).

Poster walk
In addition, the graduates of the advanced level of the Certificate in University Teaching Bavaria presented their teaching projects in a poster walk.

Spotlight on Teaching 2025
On 5 June 2025 the Spotlight on Teaching event at the University of Regensburg was all about sustainable and innovative teaching.
Keynote
The event opened with an inspiring keynote by Dr Stefan T. Siegel on evidence-informed education for sustainability. He pointed out a number of widespread myths about sustainable teaching and showed how they can be exposed.
In a lively panel discussion, Prof Dr Mandy Singer-Brodowski, Dr Stefan T. Siegel, Sonja Block and Ann-Kathrin Roßner discussed different perspectives on how sustainability can be embedded in study and teaching.
Award ceremony
Another highlight was the presentation of the University of Regensburg’s Teaching Innovation Awards. The following were honoured:
- Prof Dr Wolfgang Dworschak for developing the degree programme Pädagogik bei geistiger Behinderung (curriculum category)
- Prof Dr Angela Ganter for the didactic design of the master’s seminar „Verfassungsdebatten: Kontexte und Medien“ (course category).
- Dr Laura Haas, Prof Dr Martin Rosentritt, Prof Dr Sebastian Hahnel & PD Dr Angelika Rauch of Regensburg University Hospital for establishing OSCE examinations on classifying and handling dental ceramics (assessment category).
