Education for sustainable development
In recent years, sustainability has increasingly come into focus at universities – including at the University of Regensburg (external link, opens in a new window). As a central area of focus, it is firmly anchored in the university’s profile. With the Sustainability Office, the Green Office and the Zukunftsrat Nachhaltigkeit as well as numerous student initiatives, a wide range of structures and activities already advance the topic in research, administration and campus life.
The innovation hub, too, addresses the question of how sustainability can be deliberately anchored in teaching. The CUAT took part in the City of Regensburg’s Sustainability Week 2025 with a panel discussion on sustainability in teaching (external link, opens in a new window).
Self-study course “Sustainability Education”
Many lecturers had little contact with education for sustainable development (ESD) during their own academic training. Establishing sustainability education in university teaching in the long term therefore requires not only offers for students but also targeted qualification measures for teaching staff.
With the self-study course “Sustainability Education”, the CUAT offers low-threshold continuing education for lecturers. The course conveys basic knowledge of ESD and supports participants in developing their own teaching concept – tailored precisely to the individual conditions of the course in question. In this way, sustainable content and perspectives can be integrated systematically into one’s own teaching.
