MSc thesis projects can be started / written at any time. Details can be found on our AG GRIPS.
Usually, we would expect that prospective students have previously taken the focus subject theoretical ecology / ecological data science. Without taking this subject, you will usually not have the necessary knowledge / expertise to successfully conduct your MSc research. In particular, we expect:
- Understanding of contemporary ecological concepts and questions
- Firm grasp of neccessary practical skills to conduct data-driven ecological research (project management, Git / GitHub, R, R packages, general programming skills)
- Good understanding of theoretical foundations of statistics and machine learning (see topics oral exam)
Feel free to get in touch if you think you have acquired this knowledge elsewhere. We are also open to hosting external MSc students but expect some prior experience so that you can start working smoothly.
