Description of the

Eine Veranstaltung der Arbeitsgemeinschaft Medien und Kunst/Kunst und Medien der Gesellschaft für Medienwissenschaft

At first glance, ecology and technology seem to belong to two completely different spheres, which refer to the classic contrast between nature and culture. In fact, however, without (media) technologies we can no longer have any concept of nature and certainly cannot take any ecological measures: without technical surveying, mapping, visualisation of nature by means of satellite images, sensor technologies and other medialisations, it is hardly possible today to determine where ecological action is necessary. In the meantime, the arts are also increasingly concerned with the question of how ecological processes can be made perceptible by using various media technologies aesthetically, thus giving new perspective to and reflecting on the relationships between humans, nature and technology. Against this background, the workshop will discuss the various dimensions of the relationship between media and ecology.
