The Bavarian-Czech Academic Agency (Bayerisch-Tschechische Hochschulagentur) is a project launched on the basis of the development report of the Bavaria-Czech border area by the Bavarian State Ministry of Finance, Land Development and Homeland in 2016. Since 2021, the project is funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts. The main Czech partner is the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic.
The Bavarian-Czech Academic Agency is affiliated with the Bavarian Academic Center for Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe (BAYHOST) as its own department and acts as the central point of contact for all aspects of bilateral cooperation between Bavaria and the Czechia in the field of higher education and science.
The main goal of the Bavarian-Czech Academic Agency is to contribute to the development of excellent and sustainable academic networks in research and education by mediating, consulting and funding collaboration between Bavarian and Czech universities and research institutions. Thanks to made-to-measure concept of funding of academic exchange on all levels and assistance by establishing and maintaining cooperation, the Agency brings the academic strong points of both states together.
The funding of BTHA encompasses grants for study abroad programs, language courses, summer and winter schools in both countries as well as mobility grants for internships, research travels and excursions; moreover it focuses on support of bilateral academic projects and conferences in Bavaria and the Czech Republic. The financial support programs are complemented by the networking and counseling services for students, teachers, researchers and management of Bavarian and Czech universities and scientific institutions.
BTHA provides a wide range of academic cooperation in research and education and a variety of contacts that contribute to the increased cooperation of these two countries in higher education and science.
