Exam Procedure

For written exams:

FlexNow registration deadline: five working days before the relevant exam
FlexNow withdrawal deadline: five working days before the relevant exam

For oral final module examinations (lecture series, 6th semester):

specific registration and withdrawal deadlines will be announced when the dates and examiners are published.

Written exams will not be marked unless you have registered via FlexNow in advance!

First attempt:

Initial registration in FlexNow is only ever possible for the regular examination date . 
Only if you are unable to take the exam on the regular date due to illness (medical certificate) may you take the exam for the first time on the retake date.

Failed the exam on the first attempt:

If you fail your first attempt, the relevant administrative office will automatically register you for the next available retake in FlexNow. You are obliged to take this exam. You cannot deregister yourself! (Exception: inability to take the exam due to illness)

Failure on the second attempt:

If you fail the exam twice, you will be invited in writing to take the final oral module examination, with at least four weeks’ notice. The third oral examination will be conducted by two examiners of equal standing. It may cover all courses included in the module. For this reason, the third attempt will only be scheduled once you have already taken and passed all other component examinations for the relevant module, or have failed them twice as well.
Failure of the comprehensive oral examination will result in the final failure of the Bachelor’s degree examination.

In order to take university examinations, students must be enrolled in accordance with Article 87(1), first sentence. (Article 84(1), seventh sentence, BayHIG).
This also applies to retakes!

Resit examinations:

Reference to Section 25(3), sentence 7 of the BSc Chemistry Study Regulations: “With regard to modules not offered by the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, the examination regulations of the respective responsible faculty shall apply.”

The module CHE-BSc-M02 mathematics is offered by the Faculty of Mathematics. Section 25 of the Study Regulations for the BSc in mathematics applies to the retaking of module (or part) examinations.

The CHE-BSc-M03 Physics module is offered by the Faculty of Physics. Section 22 of the BSc Physics Study Regulations applies to the retaking of module (or part) examinations.

This means:

You always have two opportunities to retake written examinations in both Mathematics and Physics (there is no third, oral attempt!). These must always be taken at the next available date! Please note: You will not be automatically registered for a retake! Please ensure you register for the examination dates yourself. Failure to register will result in missing the deadline (=failed attempt!).

In order to take university examinations, students must be enrolled in accordance with Article 87(1), first sentence. (Article 84(1), seventh sentence, BayHIG).
This also applies to retakes!

If you are unable to take an examination due to illness, you must officially withdraw from that examination. Otherwise, you will remain registered for the examination and a ‘no-show’ with a mark of 5.0 will be recorded in FlexNow.

To withdraw, please submit the withdrawal form and the medical certificate (original!) to the Chemistry Examination Office.

Withdrawal from the first attempt:

If you withdraw from your first attempt, you are free to use either the retake date or the next regular examination date (one year later) as your first attempt.

Withdrawal from a retake:

If you withdraw from your first retake your retake period will be extended to the next available exam date. You will be automatically re-registered for that exam date by the relevant office via FlexNow.

If you withdraw from the third oral examination, a retake date will be arranged with you in due course. Here too, registration via FlexNow takes place automatically.

For written exams:

For your first attempt, you may choose either the regular or the resit date for a given semester. If you sit your first attempt on the resit date, please note that the next opportunity to retake the exam will be at the next regular exam date in the following year at the earliest.

General note:

Exams and resits must be taken in good time to ensure that any entry requirements and the general examination deadlines (Standard Period of Study or maximum duration of study) are met.
Failure to sit examinations on time (through your own fault!) does not justify an application for an extension of your period of study!

Written module examinations in modules CHE-BSc-M101 to CHE-BSc-M121:

PO § 25(1): Any written module examination failed on the first attempt may be retaken up to three times. 
The third retake may also take the form of an oral examination, at the examiner’s discretion. Any change to the examination format must be notified at least four weeks in advance.

Oral module examination in module CHE-BSc-M122 (concluding module):

PO § 25(2): Module sub-exams in the concluding module that have been failed on the first attempt may be retaken twice.
Only the specific sub-exam that was failed may be retaken.

Module reports in the constrained elective modules CHE-BSc-M124 to CHE-BSc-M127:

PO § 25(3): A module report in the constrained elective modules CHE-BSc-M124 to CHE-BSc-M127 may be revised (resubmitted) if the performance is unsatisfactory and resubmitted a second time within four weeks. 
If, following revision, the module report is not submitted within the specified deadline, or if it is still marked as unsatisfactory after the second submission, the constrained elective module is deemed to have been failed on the first attempt. 
In this case, all module components, together with the associated coursework and examinations, must be repeated in full at the next available opportunity, or the chosen constrained elective module must be replaced by another constrained elective module. 
All module components, together with the associated coursework and examinations, may be retaken once.
 

PO § 25(5): In modules CHE-BSc-M101 to CHE-BSc-M121, students are permitted to voluntarily retake, in writing, an examination that they passed on their first attempt, at the next available examination date, in order to improve their mark. It is not permitted to switch to an oral examination in this context.
If the retake to improve the mark is failed, the mark from the first attempt will stand; otherwise, the better result will be used.

PO § 25(7): If the bachelor's thesis is marked ‘unsatisfactory’ (5.0), it may be resubmitted once with a new topic.
The application for a new topic must be submitted within six months of being notified of the initial failure. The maximum duration of study must be taken into account when submitting the application!

A second retake is not permitted!

If you are unable to take an examination due to illness, you must officially withdraw from that examination. Otherwise, you will remain registered for the examination and a ‘no-show’ with a mark of 5.0 will be recorded in FlexNow.

To withdraw, please submit the withdrawal form and the medical certificate (original!) to the Chemistry Examination Office.

Initial registration in FlexNow is (usually) only possible for the regular examination date . Please check with the relevant examiner or the Economics Examinations Office to find out whether a retake is available for first-time candidates .

If you are unable to register yourself, please contact the Economics Examinations Office immediately and, under no circumstances, after the registration period has ended.

In order to take university examinations, students must be enrolled in accordance with Article 87(1), first sentence. (Article 84(1), seventh sentence, BayHIG).
This also applies to retakes!

Modules WiCHE-BSc-M01 to WiCHE-BSc-M05 and WiCHE-BSc-CHE-M01 to WiCHE-BSc-CHE-M10:

Study Regulations § 25(1): Any module examination failed on the first attempt may be retaken twice. Examinations that have been passed cannot be retaken.

If the module examination consists of separate components, only the component that was not passed must be retaken. The first retake must normally be taken at the next available opportunity, but no later than within six months. The second retake must normally be taken no later than twelve months after the results of the first attempt have been announced.

If the second retake of the module examination is not passed, the module and the Bachelor’s examination are deemed to have been failed definitively.

Modules WiCHE-BSc-Wi-M01 to WiCHE-BSc-Wi-M06:

Study Regulations § 25(2): Any failed examination may be retaken once. Oral examinations are permitted. The retake for a failed examination must be taken in the following semester. Examinations that have been passed cannot be retaken.

Applicable once during the course of study: A module examination that has been failed on the retake may be retaken a second time upon written application to the examination board, provided that the module group in question has not otherwise been successfully completed. The application must be submitted no later than one month after the announcement of the final required examination result for the module group in question!

Modules WiCHE-BSc-Wi M08 to WiCHE-BSc-Wi-M29:

Applicable once during the course of study: A module examination taken for the first time and failed within one of the compulsory-elective module groups ‘Value Chain Management’, ‘Financial Management and Reporting’ or ‘Digital Business’ may be cancelled upon written application to the examination board. In this case, the application must be submitted no later than one month after the examination results have been announced. A module examination that has been removed from the record may not be retaken.

PO § 8(5): For each module group, an average mark is calculated as the credit-weighted average of the module examination marks. A module group is deemed to have been successfully completed if no module examination has been awarded a mark of 5.0 and no more than one module examination has been awarded a mark of 4.3 or 4.7, and the calculated average mark is 4.0 or below.

A module group can no longer be successfully completed if, after exhausting all opportunities to retake an examination, a mark of 5.0 has been achieved in one of the module examinations or a mark of 4.3 or lower has been achieved in more than one of the module examinations, or if the average mark required for successful completion is no longer attainable.

Upon successful completion of a module group, the student is awarded the credit points for all modules completed within that module group.

This does not apply to oral examinations or seminar papers!
