The Master's program is a research-oriented, advanced course of study lasting four semesters.

Admission to a Master's program requires a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent first professional qualification. The examination regulations specify which degree programs or Bachelor's degrees are accepted as admission requirements for each Master's program.

The aim of the advanced Master's program is to develop independent scientific skills, including the ability to work in an interdisciplinary and practice-oriented manner.

The general Master's program in Chemistry comprises three core modules, which can be freely combined from all offered sub-disciplines of chemistry. Building upon this foundation, students can then specialize in selected disciplines through advanced modules that focus on research-oriented content and lab experience. This structure allows for both a broad-based course of study across several classic areas of chemistry and individual specialization through the targeted combination of related fields. Students can thus either develop a generalist profile with comprehensive training or specialize early on and develop a clear professional profile.

Each core module concludes with an oral final module exam. Two sub-disciplines are explored in greater depth through two Advanced Module I courses, and one of these is further explored through an additional Advanced Module II course, in which specialized knowledge and research techniques are taught. The final module consists of a research-based master’s thesis supported by seminars; nine months are allocated for this thesis, which may also be completed abroad. The overall grade for the Master’s degree is composed of the three graded oral final module exams and the grade for the Master’s thesis.

Some possible combinations you can find in the overview: "Mein Master passt zu mir!" (PDF). (opens in a new window). (This PDF is not accessible)
