Studying abroad

Stays abroad are also possible whilst studying pharmacy. However, as we have a relatively rigid module catalogue and all the credits we accumulate are a prerequisite for admission to the state examinations, the recognition of academic achievements is somewhat more complicated than in most other degree programmes.

This means that a semester abroad will almost always result in you having to study for one semester longer than the standard duration of the programme, unless you can obtain all the credits for that semester whilst abroad and have them recognised, or make them up in some other way.

If you’re considering a semester abroad, it’s best to (external link, opens in a new window)start attending (external link, opens in a new window)a language course (external link, opens in a new window)well in advance – a certain level of proficiency in the local language is often required (A2, B1 or B2, depending on the university).

ERASMUS+

Through Erasmus+, you can study for one or two semesters per stage of your degree at one of our partner universities in the EU.

Semesters abroad outside the EU

We also have partner universities outside the EU. However, as semesters abroad at these institutions are not organised through Erasmus+, the administrative burden is often slightly greater.

EPSA

The European Pharmaceutical Students’ Association is the European representative body for pharmacy students. EPSA is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation with no political or religious affiliation. It represents over 160,000 pharmacy students in 33 European countries.

Through the BPhD’s membership of EPSA, every German pharmacy student is automatically a member of EPSA and can benefit from the numerous projects and take part in the main events. The best way to find out more is to visit the EPSA website (external link, opens in a new window) directly.

IPSF – International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation

This is the international federation of pharmacy students, which currently has over 350,000 members from 70 countries. The BPhD is also a member of the IPSF. The organisation arranges international placements and health campaigns. These include, for example, the AIDS campaign, which is also supported by our student union. ANY QUESTIONS?

The Göpferich Chair, in particular, is strongly committed to ensuring that we, as pharmacy students, have the opportunity to spend a semester abroad. Prof. Dr Göpferich holds information sessions on this topic during the winter semester. The dates are usually announced in the Pharmaceutical Technology lecture and on the Chair’s website. There is also a non-compulsory GRIPS course (external link, opens in a new window) which interested students can sign up for.
