Research into linguistic biography
One of the key areas of research for the DaZ Chair is language biography research:
“A language biography is a kind of CV that focuses on a person’s language development and experience. It contains information about the various languages a person speaks or has learnt, about their language knowledge and skills in each language, and about their experiences with different language domains. It concerns the intertwining of an individual’s life story and language(s)” (link to the publication “Multilingualism in Education and Science” (external link, opens in a new window)).
In 2019,Prof. Dr Rupert Hochholzer and Dr Anna Gloria Ritter authored the following study: “Language biographies of multilingual young people: A study of newly arrived pupils (external link, opens in a new window)”.
As the outcome of a university seminar , Prof. Dr Björn Hansen (Chair of Slavic Linguistics) and Prof. Dr Rupert Hochholzer, together with three students – Ayfer Şahan-Barat, Konstanzia Lüke and Juliette Breton – produced the following article: ‘I am a truly proud Bavarian Croatian’ – a language-biographical interview with Bavarian Minister of State Michaela Kaniber (2024) (external link, opens in a new window).
