Language support and early childhood language development are key prerequisites for every child’s successful educational journey. The SISMIK, SELDAK and PERIK assessment procedures have been used in nursery schools for many years. A‘Bavarian language screeningfor individual language support needs’ (external link, opens in a new window)was introduced as a compulsory assessment procedure for all four- to five-year-old children in Bavaria in March 2025.
The qualitative interview study by Katrin Hesse and Rupert Hochholzer examines the newly introduced BaSiS screening from various perspectives. Respondents included experts from academia, nursery school heads, affected parents, headteachers, school administrators and the advisory teachers who administered the digital test.
The interview guide includes questions on organisation, the test procedure and feedback on the process from the respective perspectives of the interviewees. The results of the study, which place a particular focus on the perspective of German as a second language, will be published shortly.
