Teaching at the Chair of German as a Second Language (DaZ) focuses on imparting theoretical and practice-oriented content relating to the acquisition and teaching of German as a second or further language.
Once a year, during the winter semester, the introductory lecture and the associated foundation seminars are offered . These two courses are compulsory for all DaZ students and form the foundation module of the DaZ programme.

- acquisition of a second writing system
- Receptive and productive text skills
- Transition from nursery to primary school
- Assessment
- Minority languages (e.g. Sorbian, Burgenland Croatian)
