Working title of the PhD project
"Multilingual teachers with their own migration background.
A study of linguistic biographies with a focus on professional biographies".
Brief description of the project
My doctoral thesis project focuses on the target group of multilingual teachers with a personal history of migration.
Although the multilingualism of the pupil population is increasingly becoming the focus of multilingualism research, multilingual teachers have so far only been mentioned in passing in the literature. Despite growing calls to integrate teachers with a migrant background into the education system, there is a lack of comparative studies analysing their linguistic and biographical development trajectories, as well as their professional positioning within the education system.
The aim of this study is to conduct a qualitative examination of the perception of discourses surrounding multilingualism, as well as the (linguistic) positioning of these teachers with a multilingual repertoire within a predominantly monolingual education system. The plan is to conduct theme-focused language biographies.
