M.Sc. Mathematics

Introductory session for the Master’s in Mathematics
on Thursday 8 October at 9.30 am in room M 101

(particularly for students who did not complete their Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics at the University of Regensburg)

The Master's degree programme in Mathematics builds on a completed undergraduate degree in Mathematics or a comparable degree. It aims to provide students with in-depth scientific foundations and, taking into account the requirements of the professional world, knowledge, skills and methods in the field of mathematics, enabling them to independently and responsibly assess complex scientific problems and to apply the solutions found in practice.

Degree: Master of Science (M.Sc.)
Standard Period of Study: 4 semesters of full-time study; also possible as part-time study; 120 ECTS credits
Start of studies: Winter and summer semesters; if starting in the summer semester, course-related information and advice is recommended.
Possible Minor Subjects: actuarial science, business administration, chemistry, computational science, data science, computer scientists, mathematics, philosophy, physics, economics or management information systems. Other Minor Subjects are possible on request.
Language of Instruction: English or German, students have the right to take courses in English.
Programme content: Courses are taken in at least two of three research specialisations (36 CP in total):

• Arithmetic Geometry
• Global analysis and geometry
• Applied Analysis

In addition, the student chooses a specialisation area (18 CP), in which the Master's thesis (30 CP) is also completed. A seminar module (9 CP) is also compulsory. In addition to the mathematics courses, a Minor Subject (at least 12 CP) and courses in the elective courses in (at least 8 CP), totalling at least 27 CP, are part of the Master's degree programme.
