Animal welfare

Animal welfare, laboratory animals and animal experiments are closely linked in biomedical research: Animal experiments may only be carried out if they are scientifically justified, legally permissible and ethically justifiable, and if there are no suitable alternatives. Animal welfare is not an "add-on", but a central principle that characterises the planning, implementation and control of all animal experimentation.
