Equality policy of the UR

University of Regensburg, Elias Wiedemann

"Equality between women and men is a guiding principle of the University of Regensburg and is taken into account in all university processes."
This programmatic sentence is reflected in the basic regulations and all other strategic documents of the UR. It takes up Article 4 of the Bavarian Higher Education Act of 23 May 2006, which made equal rights for women and men the responsibility of universities, and has since been reflected in all UR guidelines and concepts. The Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (BayHIG) also establishes equality as a central guiding principle. According to Article 22, Paragraph 1, Sentence 1 of the BayHIG, universities promote the actual realisation of equal rights for women and men in the performance of their duties and take this into account as a guiding principle. They also work towards the elimination of existing disadvantages. In accordance with Art. 22 Para. 3 BayHIG (external link, opens in a new window), the representatives for the equality of women in science and art ensure the avoidance of disadvantages for female academics, female teaching staff and students and support the university in the fulfilment of its task in accordance with Para. 1.

Equality is firmly anchored in the self-image of the University of Regensburg. Its mission statement (2007) emphasises equal opportunities for women and men, the consideration of different life situations and the compatibility of family and career.
In the Development Plan 2020 (2011), the improvement of equal opportunities and family friendliness was made binding for all areas. The University Development Plan 2025 (2020) has once again significantly strengthened these goals.

The target agreement drawn up with the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and Art in 2019 for the years up to 2022 also contained key points for equality in the academic field. The 2018-2022 equality policy (external link, opens in a new window), which the UR adopted in April/May 2018 with broad committee participation, opened up the prospects for further development in the coming years. As an objective for the years 2023-2027, the university management and the Senate, in cooperation with the University Equal Opportunities Officer for Women in Science and Art and the Equal Opportunities Coordination Office team, have adopted a new equality policy for research and teaching for the years 2023-2027 (external link, opens in a new window)(pdf file, 1,150 KB) (also available in English (external link, opens in a new window) ).
