Thinkspace Ukraine

The Centre for Interdisciplinary Ukrainian Studies "Denkraum Ukraine" ("Thinkspace Ukraine") at the University of Regensburg brings together expertise in Ukrainian history, culture, politics, law, and economics. Serving as an internationally recognized hub for knowledge and communication, it fosters interdisciplinary research and education on Ukraine.

Subject areas at DU:

  • War, peace and post-war order
  • Flight, migration and value transfer
  • Regional diversity - a comparison of industrialised and border regions

Call for Participants:

Winter School 2026 “Ukrainian Migration in Europe and Globally in the 20th and 21st Century”

This year, we will dive deep into the topic of Ukrainian migration in Europe and globally in the 20th and 21st centuries. During the week of 23–27 March 2026, Ukrainian Free University in Munich will host inspiring lectures, presentations, and panel discussions, and will serve as a space for exchange and new connections.

MA and PhD students, as well as professionals from social institutions and the media who are interested in exploring the fundamental historical, cultural, and social contexts of Ukraine and its neighboring regions, are warmly invited to apply.

Media Fellowships 2026

Supporting media projects on Ukraine.

In 2026, DU is awarding honorariums lasting one or two weeks, funded at 1,400 € per week (7 days), for media professionals such as journalists, video makers, photographers, and writers who focus on topics related to Ukraine.

During their stay, the selected participants are expected to engage with the research staff at the University of Regensburg and research institutions in Regensburg, use the library and archival resources in Regensburg, or hold their own book presentations, film screenings, exhibitions.
