A Minor Subject is compulsory
Information on Minor Subjects can be found in the module catalogue and Examination Regulations (external link, opens in a new window) that apply to you.
According to the Examination Regulations of 16 June 2025, Minor Subjects can be actuarial science, business administration, bioinformatics, biology, chemistry, data science, computer science, fundamental philosophical issues in theology, physics, economics or management information systems.
Students must apply to the Bachelor's Examination Office for Mathematics at the beginning of the 3rd semester to choose Minor Subject Actuarial Science. An informal application is sufficient (a template for an informal application can be found, for example, on the website of the Examinations Office for Mathematics).
Minor subjects that deviate from this must be approved by the Bachelor's examination board. If possible, the application should be submitted before the start of the Minor Subject programme. The application to the Bachelor's examination board must be accompanied by a Study Plan approved by the Dean of Studies of the relevant faculty (list of courses to be completed in which at least 26 credit points are achieved).
Minor Subject Actuarial Science in the Bachelor's degree programme in Mathematics
Students on the Bachelor's degree programme in Mathematics can choose Minor Subject Actuarial Science. To do so, an informal application for approval of the Minor Subject Actuarial Science must be submitted to the Bachelor's Examination Office for Mathematics at the University of Regensburg no later than two weeks after the start of lectures in the third semester (you can find a template for an informal application on the website of the Examination Office for Mathematics, for example). In justified exceptional cases, an application can also be submitted later.
The Minor Subject Actuarial Science comprises the following courses:
COMPULSORY AREA
| Offer | SWS | CP | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Accounting | WS | 4 | 6 |
| Investment Decisions* | SS | 4 | 6 |
| Management accounting | SS | 4 | 6 |
*early investment (students with start of studies before WS 2022-23)
The compulsory courses are offered in the Faculty of Economics at the University of Regensburg. If possible, these should be attended before the compulsory elective courses. Furthermore, prior knowledge of stochastics/statistics is recommended for the actuarial science courses of the constrained elective courses (e.g. the course Introduction to Probability Theory and Statistics of the Faculty of Mathematics).
Constrained elective courses
The compulsory elective courses are offered in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in Mathematics at the Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule (OTH) Regensburg. Students choose courses worth at least 10 credit points from the module groups on actuarial science from the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in Mathematics at OTH Regensburg. An overview of all modules belonging to the module group "Actuarial Science" can be found in the module handbooks of the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in Mathematics at OTH Regensburg:

The following courses will be offered by OTH Regensburg in the winter semester 2025/26 . Information about the courses in ELO (electronic learning platform of the OTH). Actuarial training
As has been successful in the past, OTH Regensburg continues to endeavour to ensure that the subjects offered in actuarial science are credited towards the actuarial training of the German Actuarial Association (DAV) if the examinations are passed. The following recognition is planned:
Actuarial science I, II → Personal insurance mathematics
Financial mathematics → Financial mathematics and investment management
Non-life insurance mathematics → Non-life insurance mathematics
Measurement and integration theory
Risk theory
Registration for the OTH examinations
Students must register at the Bachelor's Examination Office for Mathematics at the University of Regensburg up to two weeks before the start of the examination period at OTH Regensburg. The Bachelor's Examination Office officially notifies OTH Regensburg of the examination candidates.
The agreement between the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Regensburg and the Faculty of Informatics and Data Science at OTH Regensburg, which can be found under this link (external link, opens in a new window), applies to the choice of courses and the organisation of examinations in the Minor Subject of Actuarial Science.
