DAAD & Erasmus+

This page lists the programs offered by the German Academic Exchange Service or DAAD, which promotes academic exchange and offers various scholarships.

In addition to the information center in Kyiv, the DAAD offers a range of other programs for individual exchanges or cooperation in education and research. The Erasmus+ program is in Germany also coordinated by the DAAD.

At the bottom of the page you will find a list of DAAD scholarship programs that can be used by students from Ukraine.

Solidarity with Ukraine

The DAAD stands in solidarity with Ukraine and especially its students and academics.
The DAAD is continuously monitoring developments and is in close dialogue with its member universities and the funding ministries on the steps that now need to be taken.

The DAAD Information Centre in Kyiv is available to provide Ukrainians with information and advice on site. The Information Centre's website also provides information on living, studying, researching and teaching in Germany.

German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is an association of German universities and their student bodies and is the world's largest organization promoting international academic exchange. It is funded by the Federal Foreign Office (AA). In Ukraine, 46 DAAD projects and 62 projects are currently being funded under Erasmus+.

In order to be able to support academics from Ukraine at short notice, the DAAD is making existing programs more flexible with the aim of

  • to extend the stays of Ukrainians who are already in Germany in an uncomplicated manner
  • Enable Ukrainians who have already been selected for a scholarship to start their scholarship earlier
  • to enable former scholarship holders to be re-invited
  • to be able to offer preparatory language and specialised courses as quickly and unbureaucratically as possible
  • To enable universities in DAAD-funded projects to make flexible use of funds for academics from Ukraine

In addition to the scholarship programs and the re-invitation of former scholarship holders, this applies above all to the STIBET (external link, opens in a new window) and Eastern Partnerships (external link, opens in a new window) programs. (Further details can be obtained from the relevant DAAD department)

The following programs were launched specifically in the context of the war in Ukraine:

  • Future Ukraine - Scholarship program for refugees from Ukraine at German universities: funding is provided for the professional qualification of particularly high-performing students from Ukraine who have fled to Germany at German universities. In addition to specific language and subject-related support and mentoring programs at the universities, the program focuses on awarding full scholarships to students who are aiming for a degree (Bachelor's, Master's or doctorate).
  • Ukraine digital - the DAAD funding program "Ukraine digital" supports German-Ukrainian university cooperation to continue teaching in Ukraine during the war by digital means and helps Ukrainian students to continue their studies digitally.
  • German-Ukrainian university network - the program aims to strengthen and deepen cooperation between German and Ukrainian universities. The Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR, formerly BMBF) is supporting the program with a total of 24 million euros until 2029.
